Four ASA AZ800 telescopes for Cutting-Edge Exoplanet Science
The MARVEL project is a groundbreaking telescope array currently under development at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on La Palma. It consists of four ASA AZ800 Ritchey–Chrétien telescopes, each feeding light via optical fibers into a shared, high-resolution radial velocity spectrograph.
With a precision of 1 m/s, MARVEL is designed to measure the masses, orbits, and activity levels of thousands of exoplanet host stars—providing crucial follow-up observations for major space missions like TESS, PLATO (launch 2026), and ARIEL (launch 2028).
This innovative observatory is an unique facility in the Northern Hemisphere, enabling high-impact science and maximizing the return from ESA and NASA’s exoplanet discoveries.
